Bathing Jesus.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWith 4 days of life left in Northern Ireland, and a week to go in Dublin, we’ve been thinking a lot about our best memories of life in South Africa, loving on the kids there. My favourite memories are of doing normal, everyday things. Bathtime was always one of those times when I’d feel God’s presence really strongly & when I asked Him about this, He reminded me of Matthew 25 “whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked – that was me. You did it to me.” The thing I loved most was seeing Jesus in the children.

We look at our boys, days before we get onto a plane, and I feel like they are the ones leading us in many ways. They live in the moment. There are no attempts to analyse the future, worrying about all the “what if’s”. They enjoy the moment & live life knowing that they are loved & expect to be loved. When asked what they are looking forward to the most about returning to South Africa, the answer we hear back is always “we won’t have to wear shoes!” They delight in the simple pleasures of life, always with hearts full, expecting joy at every turn.

Whilst we look forward with anticipation to what God’s going to do in the coming months within our family, we also remember Jesus’ commission to “go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life… & I’ll be with you as you do this. Day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28). We’re called to go. Whether it’s to a work colleague, a neighbour’s house, a foster child, family member, complete stranger or another nation. We are all missionaries. We all get the joy & privilege of living out the gospel of the Kingdom before people’s very eyes. And we all get to invite them into the family of God.

We’re also so very aware of how each one of you reading this is also sending us. Thankyou for this! His love is like an ocean & we have felt wave after wave of His love come crashing over us, from many people over this last year. Holding us up in their prayers, covering us with love, caring for every one of our needs. Thankyou. Without Him we have nothing. Without each one of you, we quite simply could not go. I love that His purposes bring about unity and creativity in the family of God. Thankyou to each one of you for being family to us. Here’s to the “more” of God that we will see together throughout the coming months. God is pouring out His Father’s love through the church, His body, with His full authority. It’s what she was made for.
